The new building for Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a safe and secure environment to the sick/ rehabilitating children of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital. With over 8000 sqm, the sixteen-storey building offers 66 guestrooms and a podium with various spaces for playing and living, creating a community away from home. The Design Concept is all about ‘Happiness’ and ‘Caring’. Situated in a difficult site surrounded by a highway, the design makes careful view to the scenery beyond. The external façade is assembled with colorful and playful fins and accentuated by “gift boxes” - living rooms in the sky to facilitate closer bonding among residents. Meanwhile, the podium levels are featured with double height spaces and a grand skylight to allow natural daylight to penetrate the deep floor plates. The House thus provides a conducive environment for mutual support among families to face the weight of illness together.
