Separated by Junction Road, the HKBU Ho Sin Hang Campus of the 1980s and the Shaw Campus of the 1990s are interconnected by the Shaw Tower Entrance. Symbolically, this is the intersection landmark for day-to-day student circulation and the vertical crossing-over with the hierarchy of the academia.
The rejuvenation initiatives are to re-connect the understated entrance with the University Community through place-making integration of IT technologies together with stakeholders’ intervention and community participation. The new oval-shaped students’ forum is designed to act as a central focus of the new gateway. Transforming old steps into terraced seating platforms and a gentle ramp circumnavigation the forum, the monotony of the existing structural grid is dissolved into the vibrancy and energy of the students’ town hall. The Integration of LED column, enhancement of natural lighting and greenery, hyperbolic ceiling, all embrace the integration of vibrant academic environment and student participation.
