[Call for Volunteers]
HKIA x HKFYG Design Charrette 2026
Vertical City: Re-Designing Hong Kong’s Skyline

The Hong Kong Institute of Architects and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups are back with the 5th Design Charrette, and we are looking for volunteers to join us.

Organised by the ARCASIA Committee under the Board of External Affairs, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), in collaboration with The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG), this year’s Charrette celebrates HKIA’s 70th anniversary with the theme “Hong Kong’s Skyline,” supported by ARCASIA and The Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP).

This year, students will dive into Hong Kong’s iconic skyscrapers and explore how the city’s vertical landscape evolved from the 1950s to the 1990s. From The Murray to HSBC Main Building and the Bank of China Tower, the programme connects architecture with Hong Kong’s cultural and urban story. Through guided tours and hands-on workshops, students will reflect on the balance between historical conservation and innovative construction, while imagining new possibilities for a sustainable and human-centred skyline.

We are now recruiting volunteers to support the programme. HKIA members are invited to support and mentor secondary school students (F.4–F.6) throughout the programme. If applications exceed capacity, selection will be made subject to male and female accommodation availability. The Design Charrette will be held in 2 parts, please indicate your availability when applying:

  • Day 1
  • Day 2–3 only (with overnight stay)
  • Day 2–3 only (without overnight stay)

Priority will be given to volunteers who are available for all three days.
