Daily Architecture — Humble yet Vital
Date: 17 December 2025

The upcoming “Daily Architecture — Humble yet Vital” series aims to document and reflect on the daily architecture of Hong Kong — humble yet vital,  revealing a distinct architectural identity shaped by density, resourcefulness, and cultural specificity. We do not only discuss the buildings through a historical lens but also use them as a projection toward our future urban imagination.

Spanning from the 1880s to the present, 10 posts will introduce 10 building projects that traced how Hong Kong architects reinterpreted and adapted different architectural ideas to meet local needs of living, consuming, walking and day-to-day use. From Choi Hung Estate to Kowloon City Municipal Services Building, many of the featured projects were either designed by HKIA members or have been recognised by the Institute’s award. Others demonstrate how local architects have repurposed and revitalised everyday structures to respond to contemporary urban and social challenges — exemplifying the HKIA’s forward-looking spirit in practice.

The series is curated and written by Kongcept, a local organisation dedicated to sharing the stories of our city, both online and offline. Join us on a journey to uncover the architectural gems you might have overlooked!
