The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Education Hub revitalized a historical building located at 7 Cox’s Road at Jordan first constructed in 1902. The project team surpassed the initial project brief by integrating sustainable design, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability. The project focused on historical restoration, cultural revitalization, environmental sustainability and ecological preservation. Low-carbon retrofitting strategies included increased green coverage, energy-efficient glazing systems, solar glass skylights, and natural ventilation. A comprehensive material audit was carried out which identified items for reuse and upcycling, such as transforming discarded glass panes into new glass blocks for partition walls. The project preserved the building's authenticity, promoted community engagement through accessible spaces, and achieved ecological restoration with tree preservation and native planting, making the project a model for sustainable heritage revitalization and benefits the cultural fabric and community.
