COMPETITION ADVISORY UNIT

The architectural profession in Hong Kong is at a pivotal moment, facing challenges that require innovative solutions and collaborative efforts. To enhance the standards of architectural competitions and foster a vibrant design culture, the Competition Advisory Unit under the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) Council has been established. This unit will serve as a dedicated body to address competition-related matters, promote professional development, and elevate the profile of architecture competition both locally and internationally.

The unit will be entrusted with several critical functions aimed at enhancing the architectural landscape:

1. Advisory Role to the Council

  - Provide expert advice to the HKIA council on all matters related to architectural competitions.

  - Formulate and execute guidelines and policies to competition related arrangements.

2. Collaboration with CPD Office

  - Work closely with the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) office to organize training sessions, workshops, and seminars focused on architectural competitions, design practices, and innovative methodologies.

  - Promote architectural education and awareness through public events and outreach programs.

3. Maintenance of Professional Advisors (PA) List

  - Establish and maintain a comprehensive list of qualified architectural competition Professional Advisors.

  - Ensure that the advisors are regularly updated and vetted for their expertise and fitness of the PA role.

4. Handling Competition Matters

  - Oversee and manage all architectural, design, and built-environment related competition matters, including the organization of competitions, judging criteria, and participant engagement.

  - Provide support for competition Promoters.

5. Promotion of Architectural Competitions

  - Actively promote architectural competitions at both local and international levels, encouraging participation and showcasing Hong Kong’s architectural talent.

  - Collaborate with international bodies to facilitate knowledge exchange and foster global partnerships.
