Announcement
We are sad to announce the passing of Ar. Jose LEI (李銘根) on 23 February 2023 at the age of 92. He was the first Director of the Architectural Services Department and an HKIA Fellow. He joined HKIA in 1959, and had contributed tremendously to the pursuit of architectural excellence and development of the Institute and the profession in Hong Kong, serving as the designer of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong Museum of Arts and other landmark buildings in Macau and Hong Kong.
Not only did Ar. LEI excel in the architectural profession, being a sharp sports shooter, he also represented Hong Kong to participate in the 1968 Summer Olympics as well as the 1966, 1970 and 1974 Asian Games.
Ar. LEI will always be remembered as a committed architect for the profession and the society. We grievously miss his association with the Institute, and we offer our sincere condolences to members of his family.
