OBJECTIVE
The development of the Northern Metropolis is a significant opportunity for Hong Kong to become a sustainable city, considering its unique historical and ecological context. Following the success of the NM 1.0 Forum and Workshop in June 2023, HKIA is organizing NM 2.0 on November 18 and 25, 2023.The November 18 morning session will feature presentations by government representatives, Mainland organizations, and specialists, providing insights into the latest official planning for the Northern Metropolis. In the afternoon, stakeholders in the conservation and I&T sectors will present their visions for the future city. On November 25, the morning session will focus on possibilities for the Northern Metropolis and successful overseas case studies of sustainable developments. Participants will discuss and generate ideas on developing the Northern New Territories into a sustainable metropolis with its own uniqueness. Workshop results and proposals will be forwarded to the government.
Day 2 - 25 NOVEMBER 2023 FORUM & WORKSHOP
On November 25, the Forum will continue in the morning session, followed by a Workshop in the afternoon. The day will commence with a recap and summary of the presentations on November 18, focusing on the four aspects. Subsequently, three distinguished academics will share their insights. Dr. Billy Hau and Dr. Ren Chao will discuss the Cultural & Ecological and Climatic aspects of the future Northern Metropolis (NM), respectively. Professor Thomas Chung will present the student visions of NM as a springboard for the workshop discussion in the afternoon.
