Award - Refurbishment of Pound Lane Public Toilet and Bathhouse at Sheung Wan, Hong Kong 上環磅巷公廁及浴室

The Pound Lane Bathhouse, opened in 1904, was the first public bathhouse facility in Hong Kong. It was one of the Government' s endeavors to improve environ-mental hygiene in the community after the outbreak of bubonic plague in the late 19th century. Over the same period, the Blake Garden and Bacteriological Institute (currently the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences) were also constructed nearby. In those years when most dwellings were scarcely furnished with bathrooms and piped water supplies, the Pound Lane Bathhouse provided free hot showers for the public, thus playing an important role in improving public health and commu-nity environment. In 1961, the Pound Lane Bathhouse was redeveloped in situ into the current Pound Lane Public Toilet and Bathhouse with its service continued to the public. In 2019, a refurbishment proposal with additional AUT, AUT Shower Room and Universal Toilet was accepted by FEHD.

磅巷浴室於1904年啟用,是香港第一間公共浴室。在十九世紀末鼠疫爆發後,政府改善社區環境衛生的工作之一。 同期,附近亦興建了布萊克花園及細菌研究所(現為香港醫學博物館)。 在大多數住宅還沒有配備浴室和自來水供應的年代,磅巷浴室為公眾提供免費熱水淋浴,以改善公共 衛生和社區環境發揮了重要作用。 1961年,磅巷浴室原址重建,並繼續向公眾提供服務。在2019年,食環署接納了增設暢通易達洗手間 、暢通易達淋浴間及通用廁所的翻新建議。

The existing Science Tower and Botanical Laboratory have served the Department of Biology, Hong Kong Baptist University, since 1989 and 1999, providing research and development facilities for thousands of students for over 35 years. The latest addition to the family is the Research and Development Crop Science Laboratory which supports advanced research and provides precise controlled environment for experiments.

To overcome different challenges of their era, each generation of sustainable laboratories has adopted different innovative approach of the time and has provided research and development facilities for students. The three generations of research and development facilities have demonstrated the transition of interpretation in sustainable building and technology design of their time.

It is also aspiring that the same architect has been in charge of the 3 generations of sustainable designs.

香港浸會大學的科學樓和植物實驗室自1989年和1999年起為生物系提供研究和科研設施,支援大學研究人員及學生們的工作有三十年之久。最新加入這個大家庭的「農作物科學實驗室」可支持更先進的研究,並為實驗提供更精確的控制環境。

隨著時代和需求不斷變化的挑戰,每年的建築各自都採用了當時最創新的設備和技術,為學生們提供了研究和科研設施。這三個世代的建築展示了三十多年來大學對持續建築和技術的詮釋和轉變。

Wo Hop Shek Crematorium was re-provisioned in 2013, some areas had been reserved for expansion when required during its design stage. In 2016,the Hong Kong Government decided to implement the expansion project by adding one service hall and two cremators at the reserved areas, to meet the rising demand for cremation services and make room for re-provisioning other crematoria in the territory.

和合石火葬場於2013年進行重建時已預留部分區域以供需要時擴建。2016年,香港政府決定實施擴建 計劃,在預留區增設一間服務禮堂及兩台標準棺材火化爐,以滿足日益增加的火葬服務需求,並為全 港重新設置其他火葬場騰出空間。

Award - Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre at Sam Tung Uk Museum 香港非物質文化遺產中心 三棟屋博物館

Sam Tung Uk is a 200-year-old Hakka walled village that was declared a monument in 1981. It was converted into the Sam Tung Uk Museum (STUM) and opened to the public after restoration in 1987. In 2016, the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office set up the "Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre (ICHC)" at STUM as a display and resource centre. It aims to enhance the public's understanding and awareness of ICH through various educational and promotional activities.

To offer enriching and inspiring visiting experience, ICH Office invited SIU Kwok Kin Stanley as Guest Curator to lead, curate and design the revamp in late 2020. The revamp works have been the largest ever since the inception of the ICHC. With more artistic and up-to-date elements added, the new interior and exhibition series "Lost and Sound — Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage" reinterprets local traditional culture in an innovative and creative way.

三棟屋是有二百多年歷史的客家圍村,於1981年列為法定古蹟,1987年重修成博物館開放予市民參觀 。2016年,非物質文化遺產 (非遺) 辦事處在三棟屋博物館設立「香港非物質文化遺產中心」,作為其展示和教育中心。為了給觀眾一個 既豐富又具啟發性的參觀體驗,2020年,非遺辦事處邀請了蕭國健先生作為客席策展人策劃中心的大 型更新工作。

This library extension adds a one-story structure to the existing library building at the Polytechnic University in Hong Kong. Subverting the original Metabolist design, the project uses a lightweight structure made of steel and glass, enhancing visual lightness and openness in the interior spaces. A formal language of organic curves is introduced in the exterior patios as an urban gesture, and the curves continue inside to create a pastoral landscape.

The flexible layout is engaged through a series of pavilions for specific programs. Each pavilion, such as the floating riser or the 20-meter-long table suspended from the ceiling in perfect load equilibrium, is uniquely designed to accommodate a wide range of activities at different scales, from individual quiet spaces to group workspaces for gathering or collaboration. This new interior organization strategy enables students to configure their own spaces and to have a greater sense of ownership of the space.

這圖書館擴建項目在現有的大學圖書館大樓加建1層樓面。加建工程突破了圖書館大樓原有的新陳代 謝派混凝土建築物設計, 採用了鋼和玻璃相對較輕的物料作建材,增強了室內採光度和空間感。加建樓層設有弧形露台,把綠 色景觀延伸至室內。 透過一系列特定的區域設計,達至靈活的佈局。 例如浮動溫習枱或以完美負載平衡方式懸掛在天花板上的20 米長桌子,都經過獨特設計,以容納不同規模的學習活動,從個人安靜的學習空間到用於集體研集或 協作的團體工作空間。 這種空間佈置策略配合了學生不同的需要,增加學生對圖書館的歸屬感。

The Gallery project is a tribute to pure form and the sky's connection. Its covered walkway links buildings, creating new spaces for learning and socializing.

The semi-outdoor main spine is now an enclosed Gallery showcasing the school's vibrant life and student artwork. A zigzag skylight dissolves the linear language of the corridor, casting shadows as the sun's rays pour in. Transparency and sky connection define the design. The structure filters light through a pure form, creating an ethereal sense of space.

The Gallery leads to Charles Kao Square and the Gymnasium via an elevated walkway. Providing extra space for students and a grandstand view of the sports ground. The Gallery project creates a 3D social common for The ISF community.

"藝廊""是對純粹形式和與天空的聯繫的致敬。設計蓋行人道連接現有建築物,為學校社區創造了新的學習和社交空間。

學校的半室外主軸經過改造成為一個封閉的畫廊空間,展示了學校的活力和學生創作。錯落有致的天窗巧妙地消解了走廊的線性語言,太陽的光線從上方灑下,投射出一天中不斷變化的光影。設計理念是透明和與天空的聯繫的交織。結構已融入純粹的形式,過濾光線,創造出一種空靈的感覺。

畫廊通往高錕廣場,通過一條高架步道連接體育館。這條步道不僅為學生提供額外的交往空間,還可以俯瞰體育場。項目在三維環繞式的形式中為宏立書院社區創造了一個社交中心。

Victoria Park Academy is the first school of Victoria (China) Education Group in Shenzhen. Situated adjacent to the Lilin Park, the campus is surrounded by nature. The design takes inspiration from its surroundings and tries to create a harmonious environment with students and teachers at its core. We preserve the original gable roof structure, which is a series of M-shaped gables that echo with the hills where the site is set. A “Blue Mountain Corridor”, shaped like flowing water, is a centerpiece that connects the whole campus. Like an endless river of knowledge, the Corridor brings students from the Salon to the Grand Steps, and to the Atrium Courtyard; besides serving the purpose of circulation, it also facilitates interactions at different scales, such as reading, discussions, group play, seminar, and speeches etc. The new campus design tries to promote social interaction and collaboration, and at the same time, bringing nature seamlessly into the campus.

麗林維育學校是香港維多利亞教育集團擇址深圳的第一所分校。地緣優勢賦予場地靈動美好的基調,設計回歸自然,還原空間溫度,將關注放回到學生和老師身上。建築保留坡屋頂的優美形體,在垂直關係與組織單元上創造了一條“藍色山廊”貫穿所有室內活動,串聯沙龍講座、大台階和中庭景觀三大區域,並整體發揮尺度優勢組織閱讀、演講、學習、娛樂和交流等單元。新校園啟發學生對自我的認知、促進群體社交與協作、建立與自然的無縫鏈接。

The Chung Chi Student Development Complex Is the first step in The Chinese University of Hong Kong to showcase how PASSIVE SUSTAINABLE DESIGN can benefit the entire university with sustainable and environmental friendly future. The design of the redevelopment project aims to allows students to enjoy green campus life, reduce energy consumption and influence students on concept to flow carbon living through their daily life using the building and walking the journey.

The design embraces wellbeing and excellence within a sustainable built environment by striving to maintain a eco- healthy and green building environment. By envisioning sustainability in a more fully encompassing manner, from nurturing the culture of sustainability to contributing to the community, a more holistic outcome can be achieved.

Located in a very dense industrial area in Kwun Tong, the site was sandwiched by the busy Flyover of Kwun Tong Bypass and the major traffic road at the back. The original park was bounded with solid boundaries, and high raised planters with hard pavements. The question was how to create a green oasis and tranquil park in such a busy area.

The park works as a connector that mediates a piece of nature amidst the dense city fabric, which enhances connectivity and accessibility in the district. The new cluster of service buildings are situated on the garden edge to screen off the busy street and to align tangents and orientate towards the central lawn in the overall planning. This embodies the green oasis in the form of a circular lawn functions as a multipurpose gathering space for the outdoor theatre, as well as an urban foyer to the district. When you approach the park from the busy road outside and come closer to the circular lawn, the space would gradually open up and relates to nature.

At the main stage of the circular lawn, which acts as the heart of the green urban foyer, a green oasis is created to bridge the very dense industrial urban district to the waterfront. The design comprises clusters of service blocks, timber shelters, layers of timber trellis and frames along the walkway, which interlaces with nature and landscape, as an embodiment of the central lawn. The mature existing trees were preserved, accounting for well over half of trees on site, and some of the woods, cut off from the felled trees, were adopted for park furniture fabrication.

The architecture interlaces with nature and the interlocking planes to mediate between solid building and landscape. During the daytime, the tree shadow nicely casted on different surfaces to enliven the spaces and to provide shades for the public’s enjoyment. The idea of parallax in experiencing architecture is used, and the use of planes and frames increase the 3-dimensional and spatial quality of the experience of spaces.

By carefully placing layers of transparent screens and trellis in the blossoming garden and along the walkway, different outdoor rooms of various characters are defined to allow the public to sit, to play, and to enjoy leisure at all times. Passing through the outdoor room, integrating with the mature existing trees, and emerge themselves into the main stage of the circular lawn. The idea of pavilions among trees became one of the ideals of architecture in both Chinese culture and European picturesque garden. Outdoor pocket spaces of various characters are defined by landscape. The landscape and screen walls are defining different activity zones in the park.

At night, the theatre backdrop is lit up, like lanterns, creating another romantic ambiance to the main stage at the central lawn. Outdoor lightings are designed to provide accent illumination to highlight the architectural elements in the blossoming garden for people to experience the space at night.

海濱道公園坐落於繁喧的工廠區和寧靜的觀塘海濱之間,緩衝了觀塘繞道及主要道路,並連接市區中心和海濱長廊。公園被繁忙的車道圍繞著,加上附近一條貫穿東九龍區的架空公路,建築師期望公園能在如此密集的觀塘區打造一片「城市綠洲」。

公園設計開揚,從而增強了該地區的通透性和可達性。新的建築群座立位於公園邊界,以遮擋繁忙的街道,並在總體規劃中面向中央草坪,形成了圓形草坪形式的綠洲,使空間可作為室外劇院的多功能聚會空間。我們用圓形草坪將非常密集的工業城區與海濱連接起來。當你從外面繁忙的道路走近公園,靠近草坪時,空間會逐漸開放並聯繫大自然。

這個設計方案利用建築群、涼亭、欄柵和行人道,將大自然和景觀交織在一起,體現城市綠洲的設計理念。方案保留公園北面的鳯凰木,與新建築群形成對話,為建築的外表加添層次。此外場地一半以上的樹木被保留下來,其中一些砍伐下的木材被用來製作成公園家具。

建築與自然交織在一起,和園林景觀之間互相呼應。在白天,樹的影子投射在建築外墻表面上,使空間活躍起來,並為公眾提供陰涼處。

通過在花園中和沿著行人道精心佈置的涼亭和欄柵,創造出不同主題的戶外空間,讓公眾隨時隨地可以坐下來,享受休閒。到了晚上,中央草坪的背景燈亮起來,給圓形草坪營造出另一種寫意和浪漫的氛圍。

Located in the heart of Hong Kong, the Admiralty Station extension connects four existing railway lines, becoming the largest interchange in the MTR network. This project is exceptionally challenging as we must ensure station planning, life safety, engineering demands of blasting, excavation, construction of the underpinning structure and new station, and adaptation to the existing station, are delivered with minimised impact on running lines, surrounding environment and passenger experience.

MTR and Arup worked closely to realise the human-centric design of a 30m tall atrium, which not only draws natural light through a stunning skylight to the underground space, but also creates the main spine for passengers moving between the various lines and to the hinterlands. It enhances passengers’ comfort, experience and wellbeing, as well as introducing an efficient vertical passenger circulation via 34 new escalators, being the key to support the mega capacity that Admiralty Station handles.

金鐘站擴建項目連接四條鐵路綫,項目極具挑戰性,團隊需確保站點規劃、生命安全、核心工程順利完成,同時避免影響現有鐵路運營及乘客體驗。

港鐵與奧雅納秉承以人為本的概念,實現30米高的地下中庭設計,以巨型天窗引入自然光,為乘客提供主要移動及換綫通道,提升乘客舒適度,並以高效垂直運輸方式應對金鐘站的乘客流量。

Tenacity Residence is a two-block 140-unit transitional housing at Ying Wa Street, Sham Shui Po to provide homes with dignity and hope for the future, and to respond to the housing shortage issue in Hong Kong. Tenacity Residence offers a supportive community to be built up with practical

and cost-effective methods adopting innovative modular integrated construction (MIC) technology. Opportunizing on the existing drainage reserve constraint on site, Tenacity Residence is set back to create a welcoming communal space between our residents and the neighborhood. Accessible landscapes such as playgrounds and intergenerational play space encourage social interaction among the residents and neighborhood. All corridors are open and naturally ventilated, reducing the energy demand for air-conditioning. All stairs, corridors and roof slabs are fully furnished off-site, and the pre- finished MiC units are designed to be dismantled and transferred to another location for use, enhancing its long term sustainability.

喜信過渡性房屋位於深水埗英華街,兩幢樓宇合共提供140個單位,以實而不華的設計為市民帶來家 園和希望,回應香港房屋短缺訴求。喜信把握現有渠務保留地,重新創造公共空間。長幼同樂場等無 障礙園景空間鼓勵鄰里互動。所有走廊均自然通風,節約空調能源。項目中的樓梯、走廊以至屋頂均 於廠房生產,「組裝合成」組件可拆卸並轉移到其他位置再用,具可持續性。

The project is located at Chun Yeung Estate, Fo Tan, occupying a ground floor unit of about 490 sq.m. Most of the users are elderly people with cognitive disabilities. The design of environment and facilities, such as multi-sensory room, rest room, wandering zone, etc., are specific to the characteristics and needs of the users.

此項目位於火炭駿洋邨駿爾樓地下,單位面積約490平方公尺米。用家大多是患有認知障障礙症的長 者,因此大部分環境設施,如感官室、休息區、散步區等,皆針對用家的特性而設計。

The Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) is a multi-storey, multi-tenant industrial building covering 1.1 million square feet. The AMC offers production units that comply with Industry 4.0 standards, tailored to suit highly automated production and operation processes for tenants from multiple industries. AMC offers shared logistics, warehousing, prototyping, assembly, and clean room spaces, which reduces the cost for low-volume production. AMC equipped with a central logistics system for just-in-time delivery, saving resources for tenants.

AMC also incorporates green features such as PV panels, a Sea Water District Cooling System etc. to minimize energy consumption and carbon emissions. Sustainability was considered during construction with Design for Manufacture and Assembly and an onsite Flying Factory for prefabricated MEP components.

The AMC is surrounded by greenery, including a cascading landscape hill with a vertical green wall system and a 1/F Communal Garden covered in lush vegetation. The North site's podium garden (DT Hub) will be linked to the shared facilities at AMC, creating a community hub. "Project Plum Grove revitalises Mui Tsz Lam, a remote 360 year-old Hakka village in Sha Tau Kok, through experimental architectural demonstrations with participatory co-creation. Literally meaning “Plum Grove”, Mui Tsz Lam (MTL) is located in Hong Kong’s remote north-east New Territories. Merely 25km from Mong Kok, one of the world’s densest neighbourhoods, MTL is part of a farming village cluster including Lai Chi Wo, as part of the 7-village Hing Chun Alliance. Depopulated since mass migration to cities and abroad in the 1960s-70s and without vehicular access, the unwalled hamlet became abandoned and half-buried, though its “cultural landscape” of rowhouses, feng shui woods, terraced fields with earth god, stream and old well are still intact.

The project engaged returning villagers, studied its background and culture, settlement morphology, dwelling types, traditional architectural construction, and kickstarted MTL’s revival by restoring two ruined houses: Old House, originally a north-facing 3-bay mansion with lightwell; and Mural House, a single-bay rowhouse near the village entrance, is nicknamed for its colourful mural by a local artist. Strategically sited at either end of the village, they represent two different dwelling types. The project aim is twofold: to conserve past heritage, while also explore rural living for the village’s future flourishing. For the former, vernacular architectural form is respected; while for the latter, due to ownership, logistics and budget constraints, the design experimented with material upcycle, delicate new insertions, flexible construction techniques and programmatic innovations. Three place-inspired design principles were adopted:

1) In-situ
Old traditions are renewed with up-to-date technology. Existing rammed earth walls were carefully repaired; new walls reused locally-sourced earth from collapsed walls, adopting scientific ingredient-mixing, lab tests and modern shuttering equipment. Salvaged roof tiles, blue bricks and stone pavings were upcycled with excavated artefact displays.

2) Light-touch
Without vehicular access, new insertions were sensitive “light touch” to facilitate transport, erection and future reassembly while minimizing environmental impact. An adjustable scaffolding system clad with timber-bamboo panels, polycarbonate panels and lightweight roof panelling was adopted for both houses. Architecture students gained experiential learning in designing, making and installation.

3) Co-create
Over two years, villagers, university students and over 120 public volunteers participated throughout - from brainstorming, co-designing, experiential learning, assisting with logistics, full-scale mock-ups, on-site making to continuing operation of the two houses.

A “Blossoming Festival” celebrated the completion of the two restored houses that became multi-use settings for display, trial events and workshops. Villagers provided stories, traditional Hakka snacks and cultural activities to share, while students and volunteers arranged feature tours and eco-inspired events to activate the entire village. With over 200 visitors including government officials, neighbouring villagers, professionals and university dignitaries attending, the lively festival was well-received with widespread media coverage.

The project also encouraged other village initiatives, including volunteer-built communal furniture, privately-funded house rebuilding, NGO-funded open communal kitchen, playground redesign, together with other cultural and ecological projects. With phase two restorations underway, Project Plum Grove regenerates Place by reconnecting People via a collaborative Process, demonstrating a sustainable model for rural revitalisation in Hong Kong.

計劃以實驗性建築活化360年歷史的沙頭角客家村梅子林。復修「老屋」及「壁畫屋」采用三個設計原則, 1) 就地取材在地物料轉型再用及夯土重建,2)新建腳手架;輕量結構與木竹裝置,3)共創參與。兩年來回流村民、義工、學生和專業人士參與頭腦風暴、共同設計、現場制作及持續操作,以協作過程連系各持份者實踐長遠復育模式。

Award - Upcycled Art Show "Wish to be – Renaissance of used lights" 廢燈泡藝術展 —「但願 - 光芒再現」

Amidst the heat of the social movement in 2019 in Hong Kong, an architect/ artist/ curator turned a project pre-opening Christmas marketing campaign with recycling used light bulbs into an inspiring art show. As an architect, a vacant restaurant space in a shopping mall was improvised into a pop-up “art gallery“.

As a curator, she related the project theme, wood fossil with the used light bulbs and took the chance to revisit the meaning of life and human relationship in an attempt to bring positive energy to Hong Kong communities.

Apart from the light bulbs collected from the public with an incentive of HK$50 donation to an NPO for every used light bulb returned, she further collected other wastes from the developer’s concurrent hotel renovation projects.

As an artist, she improvised nine pieces of artowrk with these wastes and further invited 9 other designers and artists to create a responding piece or to her works or co-create with her.

香港正值史無前例的社會運動之中,一位建築師兼策展人及藝術家將一個為推廣發展商日後建築項目 的平常聖誕活動,幻變成為一個引人深思的藝術展,將一個在商場內閒置的餐廳空間,變成臨時的藝術館。

策展方面,建築師嘗試把建築項目的主題- 木化石和廢棄的燈泡雙題並論,引發人對生命的意義、人際的關係的反思,藉此希望為香港注入一點 正能量。 展覽中的廢燈泡,是發展商在社區以每個50元捐款收集回來的,另外,建築師也收集了發展商在改建 酒店項目中的廢料。 藝術創作方面,建築師就地取材,使用這些收集回來的廢料,創作了九組藝術作品,當中包括立體壁 畫、雕塑、藝術裝置,更邀請了九位不同界別的設計師、藝術家作一題兩創,同場共展。

Award - HKIA M3 Exhibit - Future-proof

“Future-proof” showcases the enduring power of architecture by highlighting the design features of an architectural masterpiece, “The Henderson” designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. The exhibit was part of the traveling exhibition, “Beyond Territories—Made. Make. Making,” hosted by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects in 2022 to celebrate the city’s achievements in urbanism and sustainable development over the last quarter-century. Inspired by the Cabinet of Curiosity: a series of collectibles hidden in drawers to entice visitors to discover and explore, the exhibit comprises of four scaled models, namely a site model, a footbridge connection model, a series of form study models, and a complete building model representing the shifting intersection of art, science, technology, and design, are placed in four cylinders. Infographics and photographs of the project are mounted in drawers at the lower part of the cylinders, offering layers of information to support visitors’ interactions. Unlike conventional architectural exhibits, the installation encourages visitor engagement and interaction to generate a sense of discovery and surprise.

Future-proof展示由扎哈‧哈迪德建築事務所設計的建築傑作The Henderson的特點,曾在2022年由香港建築師學會主辦的巡迴展覽「越界——回憶‧實現‧變進」中展出。該展覽旨在表揚香港過去二十五年來在城市化和可持續發展方面取得的成就。Future-proof的靈感來自Cabinet of Curiosity:珍奇櫃裡存放著多件收藏品,吸引參觀者去發現和探索。四個比例模型,分別是場地模型、行人天橋模型、一系列形態研究模型,以及代表美學、科學、技術和設計不斷交匯之成果的完整建築模型,放置在四個圓柱體中,而每個模型的相關信息圖像及照片則放在圓柱體下方的抽屜裡,讓參觀者能深入探索和理解該建築物的設計理念。Future-proof與傳統的建築展品不同,鼓勵參觀者接觸和參與展品,讓他們從中體驗探索的樂趣與驚喜。

Beijing Horticultural Exposition was the largest exposition after 2010 Shanghai Expo in China. The theme of the Expo. is “Live Green, Live Better”. This design was selected to represent Hong Kong in the Expo.

The theme of the Hong Kong Garden is the “City of Contrast”. The Hong Kong Garden explores a design approach to reconcile development and nature in the urban environment. It reflects the contrasting urban and garden images in the territory, examines the relationship between the development and nature and explores the aesthetic value of edible landscape.

The project aims to curate an experience inviting visitors to unfold the multi-facets of Hong Kong. It demonstrates how food urbanism and sustainable initiatives could be incorporated to a compact city.

北京世園會主題為「綠色生活,美麗家園」。該設計代表香港參加世博會。香港園以「對比城市」為主題,展示出城市兩種互成對比的狀態:高密的城市和恬靜的鄉郊,審視發展與自然的關係。

設計以立體主義的手法縱橫交錯,形成立體空間,讓遊客體驗到香港多層次的城市印象。它亦展示如何將糧食種植和可持續發展理念融入城市生活。

The pursuit of flight has always been a fantasy of humans over the course of history. From Leonardo da Vinci’s sketch of the ornithopter to the first bi-plane test flight across the Hong Kong airspace in 1911, humankind went through countless trials and failures.

This artwork is inspired by the mechanics of the flying machines. Installed with a pair of double-stack wings and bicycles' mechanical system, it perches on the lawn, casting flickering shadows to create a shaded public space. It interacts with the public and lets them experience the journey of restless hard work in realising one's dream.

The artwork creates a dialogue with the public and lets them instantly transform the surrounding environment. Rhythm of the flapping wings echoes with the speed of the city and activates the public space.

飛行,一直是人類的夢想。從五百多年前達文西構思撲翼機的草稿,到1911年在香港上空首航的雙翼 機,中間經歷了無數失敗、氣餒以及不斷實驗的故事。此藝術裝置的靈感啟發自它們的機械原理,一 對雙層的飛機翅膀與單車裝置,佇立在草地中央,透過婆娑光影,營造出遮蔭的公共空間。藝術裝置 與人互動, 讓人體驗為了達成夢想而要努力不懈的過程。
