Dear Members,
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) is launching the Universal Design Award Scheme 2024/25 (UDAS) to recognise companies and organisations with outstanding performances in providing an accessible built environment.
Faced with a growing population of people with various needs in Hong Kong, having an accessible built environment is of paramount importance so that people from all walks of life can safely and independently navigate our community. While barrier-free designs allow access for persons with disabilities in particular, universal design takes a step further to cater the needs of different groups to allow access to different premises and facilities independently. UDAS encourages wider adoption of universal design for people with all abilities, including but not limited to persons with disabilities, elderly, carers, pregnant women, and families with children.
You are highly encouraged to apply for the UDAS on behalf of your company or organisation. Should you have any suitable connections within your network and projects, feel free to circulate the information thereof. A comprehensive checklist of universal design provisions will be provided for self-assessment on the level of accessibility of the premises. Moreover, a briefing session of UDAS will be held 23rd January at 3:30 p.m. with a hybrid mode.
