As Member
 

An individual who possesses the architectural education qualifications accredited / recognized by HKIA/ARB and passes one of the below examinations: 

  • - HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment (PA) (see below the third session); or,
  • - Non-Local Architectural Professional (NLAP) (see below the fourth session)

    Is eligible to apply for  Member of the Institute and hence eligible for applying the Architects Registration Board, HKSAR (ARB) as a Registered Architect (RA) in Hong Kong under the Architects Registration Ordinance of the Hong Kong SAR Government. 

 

 

Not all architectural programmes are accredited / recognised by HKIA/ARB. Please click "Eligibility for the PA" to find an accredited architectural programme for the purpose of applying HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment.

 

The ARB has entrusted the Institute with the administration of the above assessment systems.

As Associate
 

 

An individual who 

 

 

 

(a)

Obtained a professional diploma / degree in Architecture on completion of a five-year or equivalent, full-time course of study, which is recognized by a national accrediting body in the country in which the degree is conferred. 

 

          *(If applicant’s professional degree and/or pre-professional degree                  is/are obtained in the mainland or overseas, please download the                  Confirmation of Academic Qualification (CAQ) form and be                        verified by the University and upload to the application system                    under Academic Qualification section.)

 

AND

 

 

 

(b)(i)

being a current full member of an established architectural institution which has a status equivalent to that of HKIA in its country of origin at the time of application. 

    *(Please download the Confirmation of Professional Qualification        (CPQ) form and be verified by the Institute/Board and upload to the    application system under Professional Qualification section.) OR

 

(b)(ii)

possessing professional experience in architecture or in a related field for a minimum of 5 years full time obtained after the acquisition of a professional diploma / degree in Architecture as required in (a) above. OR

 

(b)(iii)

are working as a full-time teaching staff of the course(s) of study in architecture in a University or tertiary institution recognised by the Institute with certification of the Head of the Department at the time of application.

 

 

 

May apply for Associate of the Institute.

As Graduate Member

 

An individual, who possesses a degree or diploma in architectural studies from a University or tertiary institution recognised by the Institute, or has passed any professional examination in architecture recognised by the Institute, can apply for Graduate Member.

  *(If applicant’s professional degree and/or pre-professional degree is/are obtained in the mainland or overseas, please download the Confirmation of Academic Qualification (CAQ) form and be verified by the University and upload to the application system under Academic Qualification section.)

As Affiliate

 

An individual, with a recognised associate degree/higher diploma in architectural/building construction related studies obtained from HKSAR tertiary institution and having a connection with the architectural profession, can apply for Affiliate of the Institute.

As Corporate Member

 

Corporate Members shall be corporations carrying on an architectural practice in Hong Kong that has –

 

(1)

at least one of the directors of the corporation being a Foundation Member, a Member, or a Fellow of the Institute;

 

 

 

AND

 

 

 

(2)(a)

at least 30% of the directors of the corporation being Foundation Members, Members, and/or Fellows of the Institute;

 

 

 

OR

 

 

 

(2)(b)

at least 30% of the voting rights of the corporation being held by Foundation Members, Members, and/or Fellows of the Institute.

What’s accreditation?

 

The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and the Architects Registration Board (ARB) jointly established criteria and procedures for accreditation of architectural programmes in local universities.  This accreditation establishes the academic standards appropriate for admission to the HKIA and for registration as an architect in Hong Kong.

Notice and Announcement
E-logbook

E-logbook available now at www.joinhkia.net

We are glad to announce that the e-logbook is launched at the e-Self Service System at http://www.joinhkia.net/. E-logbook will replace the hard copy of logbook from now on.

According to Professional Assessment (PA) Handbook, for candidates who wish to take Paper 1,2,6,7 and 8, they must each submit the original of the HKIA logbook demonstrating that they have complied with the required practical training. Each candidate must submit the nomination form(s) of Adviser(s) and Office Supervisor(s) to HKIA at least one year prior to the Professional Assessment viz. the last working day of October of the preceding year.

Candidates are required to register and login the e-Self Service System for the set-up of their own e-logbook. Prior to using the e-logbook functions, candidates are required to complete all information in “My Profile”. Fresh candidates are required to submit their logsheets, summary of practical experience, adviser consultation form and architect’s permission form through the e-Self Service System.

Kindly note that, candidates are, however, required to print out all forms for the endorsement and signatures of concerned persons and submit the original true copy to the HKIA for completion of submission of logbook.
