Changsha Din Din Creativity Centre

A system of organic open spaces was meticulously crafted by fast erection of 27 recycled containers, to produce a seemingly casual nomadic market. Like building a nomadic village, the containers are causally positioned and stacked in three-storey, spaces inside the containers are partitioned into rooms for various workshops and sales points for pop art and designer items, light food and beverage.
An unconventional circulation pattern ensures that visitors are guided not only through the container rooms but also throughout different floors. This path fuses the realms of private and public and encourages intimate encounters between visitors and designers.
A considering human-scaled transparent section was created for visitors. The short visual distances between the container workshops purposefully established a cozy and familiar environment.

Hi Running, Shenzhen

HiRunning is a community-shopping center that accommodates small local shops.

The atrium in the center is designed with various features that are reminiscent of a large banyan tree where villagers take rest and communicate. The large installation of geometric abstraction not only creates various light effects, but also acts as a monument that brings dynamic experience to the space. In addition, the black steel panels were stained with matte to bring in the industrial mood prevalent in old villages. The arcade presents coziness and ordinary interior space for the community.

Kingston International School, Hong Kong

This interactive learning background of various scales sets up different challenges and exploration routes for students who no longer confined to their lessons inside classrooms but are encouraged to extend their creative learning activities beyond. Multi-functionality of space and interpretation of windows as an innovative media between interior and exterior was fully explored in this design. Students can experience the spatial connectivity from their movements at each floor and the continuous flow of space from inside-out and outside-in.

Prat Road 10

The design attempts to reclaim Hong Kong's unique vertical, heterogenous fabrics that are gradually being eroded by large scale development. The project begins with a tiny lot in downtown Hong Kong which is 7m wide by 30m deep. We aim to regenerate urban vitality by designing an open, vertical building that allows future users to compose and contribute their own urban entities. By exploring the scale and arrangement of surrounding street fabrics, a vertical synthesis of heterogeneous fabrics is proposed.
The vision is to create a new type of building that can be an active participant to generate vertical street fabrics.

Shenzhen Book City / Atelier Global

Located at the heart of an art center, public park and urban villages, Shenzhen Book City aims to rejuvenate Longhua district by interlocking different types of cultural spaces - ranging from multi-functional exhibition space to a sunken garden that brings visitors into the building. In addition, a network of vertical terraces further enhances the quality of the space. Facade is composed of vertical shading devices to filter sunlight at different angles that also reminds the dynamic condition of flipping a book. Interior design creates vertical dialogues among different programs.

Shenzhen Longhua Archive Library / Atelier Global

Longhua Archives combines education, cultural exhibition and urban archive functions into a multi-purpose cluster. Bridging over two narrow sites with a public road in the middle, the archive creates horizontal space in a dialogue with surrounding urban interfaces. The archive acts as a cultural corridor to link the riverside, the urban square, and the city. Also, a portion of the exhibition area is designated as a public promenade for flexible exhibitions and future developments. The archive aims to be a future cultural landmark for the Longhua New District.

SHK Kwai Hing Commercial Tower

This rectilinear mixed-used commercial tower is located at the junction of Kwai On Road and Kwai Chung Road. The podium curvature leads the pedestrian eyes around the corner and brings them to the busy hub of the front entrance. The vertical light strips on the facade facing Kwai Chung Road accentuates the subtle shift of floor planes while the internal of the tower plays with a clean and sophisticated use of black, grey and white.

The You Art Centre, Changde / Atelier Global

The You Art Center is located in Changde, where the Chinese fable, "Land of Peach Blossoms" originated. The project vision is to use urban art as medium to rebrand the old city identity. To accommodate various art programs, the You Art center has stacked functional boxes organized around a vertical public atrium. The venue becomes a museum without wall and boundary for visitors to experience the space under the brightly lit skylight atrium. In addition, faceted aluminum cladding modules to create an animating envelope effect from various viewing angles and daylight conditions.

Vice Versa House

Despite the simplicity of the brief and very small floor area, we set an ambitious vision to revitalize the village living spirit and set up a prime example for the village new identity. An idea of internal village street is created by making dynamic visual connections to other family houses along the wrapping vertical circulation. Each floor of the house offers a different level of privacy counterpoised with visual and contextual relationship with the village outside. The daily living movement within the house becomes an opportunity to interact with neighbors such that the sense of collectiveness is fostered. Environmental considerations are carefully addressed by cross ventilation, minimizing heat gain, and diffused light collection.
