Synopsis
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) devotes considerable efforts to pre-empting noise problems and keeps abreast of the latest technologies in noise mitigation, as well as providing relevant technical guidelines to industry stakeholders. Below are the highlights of the Practice Notes which have been/would be issued:
Streamlined self-assessment procedures on road traffic noise
To facilitate planning approvals of residential projects and spell out the pragmatic compliance requirements when vetting planning proposals, a Practice Note is to be issued to promulgate a set of streamlined self-assessment procedures.
Traffic noise mitigation using INMD
To facilitate the professionals and practitioners in applying INMD in planning and developing private residential developments, a Practice Note has been issued in Dec 2021. There would be update on the Practice Note with additional coverage for larger room size option to better aid the industry in wider applications of INMD with greater flexibility.
Sound insulation mat between residential units
A Practice Note issued in May this year introduced the application of sound insulation mat between residential units to help reducing noise transmission between upper and lower units and hence alleviate most, if not all, of the domestic noise problems.
