West Mountain Innovation Valley

West Mountain Innovation Valley, also called Beijing Collaborative Innovation Park, is one of the Beijing key projects in 2021. Located at the foot of Beijing West Mountain, covering a site of app 12 hectares, its building area is about 288,000 sqm, with 186,000 sqm aboveground and 102,000 sqm underground. At present, the north plot of Phase I, the largest building group of the project, has officially started construction.

CAA takes innovation, green and openness as its design strategy and the Shanshui Innovation Valley formed by a Free Ring across various blocks as the design context, in pursuit of mutual integration and symbiosis of city, nature and humanity, fully considers its locality and humanity, as well as regional future development trend, and provides Unicorn enterprises, growth enterprises and start-ups with various scales of spaces and proper planning and design. The design concepts of West Mountain, North Courtyard and East Creek endow the three plots with unique styles respectively, and jointly script a Scroll of Landscape and Nature integrating mountains, rivers, courtyard, settlements, and fields.

The green ratio of the project is up to 30%. Through the introduction of natural landscape, roofgarden, runway, square and other public open spaces, it creates a more green and low-carbon environment. Inspired by the famous Chinese landscape painting Fuchun Mountain Dwelling, the high-performance glass curtain wall gives different expressions by the facade details of each block. Meanwhile, various technical means such as external sunshade louver components are used to achieve sustainable development together.

West Mountain Innovation Valley puts the integration of Futurism and Oriental Humanistic spirit into practice, actively creates social value and influence, and combines the development trend of city, nature, culture, and sci-tech innovation to build a three-dimensional urban garden, realizing the future city vision of multi-dimensional superposition of nature, science, and technology.

CASA TALIA Restaurant

The project is located at Parkview Green, the most artistic commercial and office complex in Beijing. In the heart of the open atrium nearly 100 meters high, a mysterious Art Work, white and pure, floats in the air. This is the CASA TALIA restaurant, a new work completed by CAA architects led by Liu Haowei.

In consideration of the restaurant brand's positioning on Spanish food, CAA combines the space conception of the unique venue with the usual surreal and dramatic space language and the Mediterranean nature worship. The Flower of Life on the terrace, nourished by the rain and dew in the sky, is the best interpretation of the restaurant brand concept.

Some say it is like a wave, like a shell and like a holy Grail, and others say it is like a palm of a pearl...In fact, in the perception of architects, it can be any living body bathed in the sun. Warm and powerful, it is the initial emotion for the site space, and naturally it is also the pursuit of a brand-new space.

Inside the restaurant, as if placed in the secret environment of the holy church, the concrete skeleton structure forms a new space system, interlaced and enclosed, with layer by layer extending like a fantasy.

CAFA Qingdao Campus

This is CAA's planning and design scheme for Qingdao Campus of Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). The project is on the south bank of Qingdao West Coast New Area, where the unique geographical position of living in the wilderness and facing the sky and blue sea forms the whole West Coast Art Bay area with TAG Art Museum and other architectural groups. Based on the "free wave" in the Art Bay area, the project draws the outline of the building with rhythmic lines, and constructs the organic living body, creating a dialogue with the Bay Area and the broader ocean and maintaining the coexistence of artistic freedom and rationality in the creation.

The foundation of the project gradually descends from the hilly terrain in the east to the seaside in the west, and the positive and negative zero elevation of the plane coincides with the absolute elevation of China. Taking this as the design context, CAA has made a unique response based on the relationship between the site and the ocean. The building is backed by a 6-meter-high hill, which fluctuates naturally along the trend of the mountain and grows continuously up to 33 meters. The vertical planning with rich levels has evolved into a large-scale curved roof garden. Different space heights meet and adapt to the needs of sitting, lying, walking, running and other activities at the same time. This is a land art evolved from natural landscape. The whole building complex seems to rise gracefully from the field, forming an organic life body that grows towards the sea, and it is also like the freeze frame of the trend of the ocean waves surging ahead.

The water ripple texture of the waves gives the building an organic ecological horizontal zoning. The virtual space of the courtyard is constantly divided like a cell. Each ring functional unit is connected by a network, and the internal function and traffic space penetrate each other, forming a multi-dimensional composite Mobius ring. The traditional classroom, library, laboratory, auditorium, dormitory and other independent units are connected into a free, open and circular whole. The multiple ideas of art education interact and integrate in the flowing space, growing inward and extending outward simultaneously. The design scheme makes a forward-looking and far-reaching exploration and attempt for the possibility of the future art education system.

This complex with the characteristics of life grows from the land and hills, just like a free wave pursuing a larger world. Between the balance of people’s relationship with nature, site, ocean, architecture and education, the free growth of art and the rational brilliance of humanities will be applied to the planning, which will initiate CAFA’s exploring a new model of innovative education, independent scientific research, social service, and cultural inheritance.

Ocean's Heaven- Maldives Airport Economic Zone Development

Located at the east coast of Hulhumale, adjacent to Male, the capital of the Maldives on a site of reclaimed land, the project is dissected by the central twin urban axis. BUCG in partnership with the Maldives central government aims to develop 60,000sqm of site area with 100,000 gross sqm, which will consist of functions such as an Airport Company Service Centre, International Trade Centre, Convention Centre, Island transport hub and shopping bizarre, business grade hotel, Centralized Retail Shopping and Dining experiences, as well as an ocean facing Cultural plaza and other supporting amenities.

As the world largest archipelago country, the Maldives are famously known as the Heaven on Earth, which is named after its jewel-like form that lie on the Ocean’s surface.Behind this beauty is a huge environmental crisis; In a world of global warming and rising sea levels as result of glacial ice melt, there is a possibility that this country could disappear from the world forever.

The project is named “Ocean’s Heaven” from both its feature of ecological energy supplies and the concept of ocean and city harmonization.

Dali Nanzhao Folklore Island

Dali Nanzhao Folklore Island is the first of the three islands in Erhai Lake, a national 4A tourist attraction and a must visit destination in Dali. The only hotel on the island was once the former site of the Summer Palace of the Dali Nanzhao King. Liu Haowei led CAA team to conduct a comprehensive reconstruction design for the whole island, including planning, architecture, landscape and interior design. The overall design of the project is combined with the unique and ever-changing clouds. Clouds are the most beautiful sight you can see anywhere in Dali. Dali was once called Auspicious Cloud in ancient times, and the name of Yunnan also comes from it. Nanzhao Island, located in the center of Erhai Lake in Dali, is surrounded by clouds all year round. Taking Cloud as the concept of architectural design to create spatial artistic conception, it not only echoes with the natural environment of Erhai Lake chasing clouds, but also the expression of Xiangyun culture in Dali. This is consistent with the idea of Chinese humanistic landscape painting and traditional architectural space construction, which lies in Meaning and Environment. When viewed from a distance, the whole island buildings look like clouds floating over Erhai Lake, half-hidden in the middle of the island, mirroring the natural clouds between Cangshan and Erhai Lake, highlighting the temperament of Nanzhao Island as a wonderland of paradise.

At the same time, the podium of the original hotel can be retained and newly added. As a commercial complex shared by hotel guests and tourists, it provides tourism reception, catering, leisure and other services. This part of the design absorbs the courtyard form of Dali folk houses, surrounded on all sides, and the roof is inclined to the middle, which means Four Waters Return to the Hall, Gather Wealth and Accept Blessing. The podium and the main Cloud building are separated in the space, and the green roof garden and the infinity pool facing Erhai Lake are designed to be completely open, which are integrated with the original natural ecological environment of the island and also the expression of CAA's design concept of City in the Sky.

In order to protect the natural environment of the whole island and the precious water resources of Erhai Lake, the CAA team also customized the environmental protection and energy-saving system for the whole island, using solar energy, double curtain wall system, rainwater collection and other technologies to save energy and reduce emissions to the greatest extent, so as to ensure the sustainable development of the environment of the scenic spot.

Wandering in the Clouds- Korea Samcheok Yisabu Dokdo Memorial Park

CAA team designed and completed the Project of Samcheok Dodo Memorial Park in Samcheok City of South Korea. The Park is located in the southeast corner of Samcheok City, facing the sea on the east side and hill on the west side. Yunkyang Mountain sits in the middle. The unique site inspired the designer’s conception on clouds, which is a very rich Oriental flavor symbol, the nature with shape, floating between the heaven and the earth. CAA made the natural carrier which is tangible and not tired, no trace to go with the wind materialize into a more concrete form. With the cloud as the carrier, the whole park connects people with nature and integrates itself as nature.

Starting from the unique Yisuf Memorial Hall, the memorial Park extends from both ends to encircle the entire park, forming a continuous corridor in the air, connecting the memorial Hall, cultural village and the scattered harbor as a whole, giving Samcheok city a very powerful life and allowing the collision and interpretation of history and future in a new dimension.

The large white block and the very tension curve of the main building present the architectural language of General Yisabu 's ambition. The bold expression of seeming defiance of its surroundings gives an interesting contrast to the language of the future and to the traditional architecture, confronts the city and takes Samcheok city to the world. It’s a combination of the Yisabu Memorial, the Dokdo Experience Center, and the Park Visitor Center, where people can enjoy a more purely immersive experience. The transparent and open indoor space blurs the boundary between nature and artificiality, allowing people to be surrounded by nature anytime and anywhere.

The whole park radiates from the twolandscape cores, which are the ribbon corridor with Yunkhyang Mountain as the core in the air and the dotted plaza with the museum as the core on the ground.

SIR. TEEN Club

The project is located on Gongti West Road, a gathering place for fashion circles, young parties and trendsetters in Beijing. After completion, it becomes the largest nightclub in Beijing and even in China. The concave and convex eight-sided geometric shapes overlap each other to exit the entrance of the club, which, under the light, seems to be a passage to a foreign land, full of dreamlike sense of future crossing. Stepping into the atrium, it's as if you've stepped back into the glamorous, sensual jazz age of the Great Gatsby. Bold and exaggerated color system, regular and symmetrical geometric patterns, and a large number of decorative decorations are the main elements to create this visual feast, with music and light, dazzling.

The preliminary planning and overall space design of the project are completed by CAA architects led by Liu Haowei. Whether it is the continuation of gorgeous tradition or the bold development of future style, it is a brand-new nightclub model that perfectly integrates art and entertainment. The careful polishing of every detail and careful consideration of every space have made the project 360 degrees without dead corners. According to the characteristics of the industry and its own positioning, CAA, adhering to the concept of Design for Tomorrow, not only looked back on the history and culture of the nightclub industry in its design, but more importantly, set its design vision to the future and continue the traditional and classic chapters in its development.

Under the romantic, gorgeous and eye-catching Art Deco style, the overall space also hides hides the futuristic space form everywhere. Through careful experience, we can find that the shape of the space capsule, abstract interstellar sense, intelligent and changeable led, glass partition and 3D projection are scattered in the space and can be seen everywhere. These also reflect CAA's core design ideas of not sticking to tradition, not imagining the future, innovating in classics, creating dreams in reality and creating surrealism.

Weifang Art Center

This Art Museum locates at cross point of mainriver route and main road which is a triangle shaped slope landscape. It functions as auctions, exhibitions, collections of art works, etc The major space is for art museum display and collections.

The inspiration is from traditional Chinese culture, originating in calligraphy form when the last drawing is gradually closing. Meanwhile, it refers to Tai Chi ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’,differ but mingle. It breaks the rule that traditional building’s wall and roof are strictly different parts. Making use of the gradient , blurred ground and level. With grasses , it lets the environment extend on to the building.

People can follow the slope covered by grass to the top of the building, making the whole building a sightseeing platform. High virescence roof top is also a public space. On the roof it has an entrance which enable people to get in and also from inside to the top. The façade of the building is a chamfer of several straight lines. Curved surface is like the wings of an airplane, leading the air flow, making the best of air circulation system. Half-enclosed plaza derives from court yard from south of China, forming the public space, but still keeping its privacy.

Zhong Huan Plaza Art Center

It was once a sales center for a landmark commercial real estate projects in Shi Jiazhuang city, Hebei Provience, which will later evolve into an art center after the completion of the sales function. Mr. Liu Haowei’s perspective of ’Architectural Impact on City’ has been implemented in this project perfectly. The building was originally a mediocre steel volume, but it has been endowed with a new spatial concept, which was transformed into a varied and tensioned volume, making it influence on the surrounding environment and become a topic of the city. Each panel of the facade and the spatial angle between panels are different, making the building an organism that is changeable and can extend to multiple dimensions. It changes the ordinary single building volume into a new spatial language and feeling, makes it the visual center of the city and influences the surrounding environment.

Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway Interior Design

Entrusted by China's Ministry of railways, CAA has designed the overall interior space of China's first Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway carriage, which is a high-speed train with independent intellectual property rights in China, and began to travel on the high-speed railway between Beijing and Shanghai in 2012.

Different from those amazing high-rise buildings or structures with strange shapes, the interior space design of Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway must reflect "special" and "ordinary" at the same time. In this "special" space, passengers' daily behavior must be as "ordinary" and convenient as at home.

Liu Haowei positioned the design as ‘Design is Invisible’, so that passengers can feel the design in real personal use during the journey, abandon the simple visual attraction, but return to the psychological level. That is, design is the essence of serving people.

In the research and development design of the interior space of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed train, what is considered is not only the visual aesthetic and simple practicality in a simple sense, but also the perfect combination of functionality, foresight and artistry as a new generation of human ground transportation.
