1 West Regent Street

The design generates grade A office accommodation and overcomes the challenge of preserving a landmark listed building and integrating this with an innovative new design that can present a valuable addition to Glasgow?s varied cityscape. 1 West Regent Street is a highly contemporary design which continues its surroundings traditions and establishes a building which appeals to the maximum potential tenants. Proportion of openings respects the buildings neighbouring context whilst ensuring open office space - maximising views and day lighting to create a bright contemporary and flexible working environment.

Armstrong Works

In 2013 Ryder was commissioned to remodel Armstrong Works, the ?m building they had designed in 1982 for Vickers. 30 years later Ryder were re commissioned to renovate the building by the Reece Group. Following analysis of the spatial and operational requirements for each company, the initial phases involved the creation and refurbishment of office space for over 200 staff, workshop space for over 350 staff and redesigning the site access and egress strategy. Later phases involved extensive remodelling of the existing offices and the creation of an innovation centre and a mine clearance testing area.

Ashington Community and Leisure Centre

The brief was to design an integrated community and leisure facility that would make a real difference in terms of skills, health and work opportunities - acting as a catalyst for economic growth, social improvement and enhanced wellbeing. Wet leisure accommodation includes a 25m swimming pool with spectator seating, a studio pool and a beauty treatment spa. These spaces have been finished to a high quality to create an environment typically associated with an exclusive fitness club.

Grimsby School of Art

The relocation of the existing school of art and design onto the main campus. Work included a mix of new build, refurbishment and extension. Grimsby Institute?s existing four storey block has been fully refurbished to accommodate the facility and a four storey extension now ties into the building?s floor levels. The design enables performing arts and music to be located within the same building. It comprises a 200 seat theatre, dance studio, theatre, control rooms and studios.

Janus Chairs

Ryder won an international design competition to provide one of six sculptural shelters along the Lakeside Way, on the north shore of Kielder Water. The design consists of three giant one piece chairs created by using a folded plate structure which can be rotated to the desired position - towards a favourite view, into the sun, away from the wind or towards each other in a family group. Taking their inspiration from unfolding petals of a flower, the chairs can be orientated by visitors as they wish.

Liverpool Science Park (ic3)

Joint owned by two universities and the council, the third innovation centre at the park provides multi occupied serviced facilities including lettable office suites and laboratories. The four storey centre merges with the previous Innovation Centre 1 (ic1) and effectively operates as a single building. The existing entrance and reception area within ic1 serves both. The site is constrained by important built heritage considerations, within a conservation area, and adjacent to the grade II* listed Metropolitan Cathedral. Particular attention was paid to ensure the character and appearance of the conservation area was preserved and enhanced.

Newcastle City Library

The brief was to provide a building to 'delight and inspire' and to create a model for twenty first century library facilities. The library has been widely acclaimed by the public, staff and stakeholders. It is a civic landmark and a meeting place. It accommodates a range of supporting facilities, a cafe, cr鋃he and public meeting and exhibition spaces. It is fully accessible, inclusive and close to public transport. It is environmentally responsible, accessible, inclusive and fun - a 'living room for the city'. The design proposals, for both the exterior and the interior, including furniture and stock arrangement, were developed through extensive public, user and staff consultation.

The new facility will provide a 16 bed inpatient unit along with associated support and family spaces, young adults unit including 2 x bedrooms in the inpatient unit, day services and outpatient unit, education and conference area, also clinical and administration offices. The project is being privately funded, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Hospice, supporter and the community.

Scottish Crime Campus

This unique project brings together, for the first time, five key law enforcement agencies to promote collaboration and innovation in solving incidents of serious crime. It provides accommodation for over 12,000 staff together with forensic laboratories and extensive support facilities to promote cross agency working. The four storey structure forms interconnected wings of flexible floor plates connected by a multi level central atrium designed to promote interaction and information exchange. DNA and chromosome biology emerged as strong themes, informing the connectedness of the plan and rhythm of the powerful vertical concrete envelope.

University Hospital of North Staffordshire

The brief was to rationalise the existing estate onto a single site to enable twenty first century acute healthcare services to be provided on the City General Campus, the largest of three existing sites. The masterplan provides a rationalised, coherent site development strategy that not only serves the immediate service delivery needs but provides a robust framework for the future development of the campus with flexibility to respond to evolving clinical strategies. The project involved the phased development of a wide range of specialist facilities to rationalise and streamline future acute care delivery.
