Landmark Riverside Danzishi Old Street, Chongqing, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/landmark-riverside-danzishi-old-street/

Landmark Riverside Park Danzishi Old Street in Chongqing, China, sits on a rejuvenated riverside heritage site. This retail complex now offers a comprehensive cultural commercial experience: historical buildings were preserved and refurbished while new structures were built with a modern Chinese architectural style so the old and new assimilate impressively well. It became the first 4A national scenic area to receive the honour under the theme of ‘port culture and Grade 9 hill slope forms’. The concept of ‘one street, two docks, four courts, ten scenic attractions’ laid down the overall development plan for the site, with the old street being the central driving concept. This place is more than a retail or commercial space – it is a vehicle of the history and culture of Chongqing.

Wuxi Center 66 Phase I Office Tower II, Wuxi, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/wuxi-center-66-phase-i-office-tower-ii/

Located in Wuxi’s commercial Liangxi district, Wuxi Center 66 Phase I Office Tower II contains 21 office levels built above a six-storey podium mall, featuring interlocking volumes and a vertical stripe design that extends to the interiors for a sense of unity.

Dynamically arranged vertical fins not only promotes linearity on the external façades, but are also part of the sustainability design which improves insulation and saves energy for air-conditioning. The project also promotes a greener workplace with common gardens inserted at various levels along the height of the building.

LWK + PARTNERS is responsible for the design of Office Tower II and the renovation of the existing Office Tower II Podium for Wuxi Center 66 Phase I development, whilst the podium façade was partially designed by another practice.

Xichen-Paradise-Walk_LWK-_-PARTNERS_01-_2_.jpg

Xichen Paradise Walk, Chengdu, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/xichen-paradise-walk/

Xichen Paradise Walk is the retail component of an integrated complex in the heart of west Chengdu, at the base of an office tower and a serviced apartment tower and adjacent to the residential component. Accessibility and transparency underpin the architecture, featuring a ‘multi ground floor’ concept to allow entry from different levels and facilitate traffic flow to the higher levels. Most of the retail floors are also visible from the main entrance for enhanced transparency. The elevation features an interplay of geometric shapes where an iconic lantern-like façade reveals the large-scale installation inside, making the building recognisable from a distance.

The mall is designed to encourage social interaction and activities. An outdoor rooftop piazza allows for public events or simply a place to relax, with multiple spaces for public display and outdoor terraces accessible from various retail zones for an integration of commercial and natural environments. A flower theme is used in the common area with big flower-pod installations and abundant natural light in a friendly social space.

Hebei-Grand-Hotel,-Anyue_LWK-_-PARTNERS_01-_2_.jpg

Hebei Grand Hotel, Anyue, Shijiazhuang, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/hebei-grand-hotel-anyue/

Grand Hotel, Anyue draws inspiration from the ancient city of Zhengding, the hotel synthesises elements from classic Chinese architecture with the needs of modern society. It is part of the Zhengding Li Mixed-use Development, a retail-led precinct also designed by LWK + PARTNERS.

With a masterplan inspired by the ancient city, the hotel is north-south oriented with two medium-rise towers and 60 villas orthogonally arranged along the central axis. The hotel towers offer a total of 200 guest rooms and are designed with single-loaded corridors to maximise river views for the suites. By shifting and staggering the resort-style villas secluded pocket spaces are created, whilst the double-storey blocks are connected by a smooth flow of courtyard gardens and covered walkways for a seamless landscaped exterior and an unobstructed spatial experience. Traditional architectural elements are reinterpreted and incorporated throughout the hotel, from façades, pitched roofs and iconic pillars to courtyards and guestroom interiors.

Nature is part of the experience at Hebei Grand Hotel, Anyue. The whole development is brimmed with verdant landscaping, with green roofs placed on some of the villas to reduce interior heat gain and energy consumption, as well as various water features to minimise heat island effect. PV panels are installed at the south-facing pitched roofs to further maximise energy efficiency, while overhang roofs keep the buildings cool in the summer.

Gallium-Valley-Science-Park_LWK-_-PARTNERS_01-_2_.jpg

Gallium Valley Science Park, Hangzhou, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/gallium-valley-science-park/

At the heart of Hangzhou’s Cloud Valley, Gallium Valley Science Park is aimed to promote the development of e-commerce and the artificial-intelligence sector. The project is set to synergise with the new Xihu University nearby while enjoying scenic surroundings by the river. It will house laboratories, co-working and meeting spaces, sports facilities, exhibition venues, restaurants and retail outlets to make up an all-round programme for its future users.

The project design proposes a new office-park typology by emphasising shared spaces on multiple levels, fostering a culture that supports work-life balance. A communal ‘sky-loop’ platform on Level 3 connects office spaces with amenities like eateries, roof gardens and other recreational facilities. Major recesses have been introduced to the taller blocks, creating open-air communal terraces facing the central garden. Internal roads and vehicle drop-offs are set to one side to allow large areas of pedestrianised zones to complete the park environment.

THE-PAVILIA-BAY_LWK-_-PARTNERS_01-_2_.jpg

THE PAVILIA BAY, Hong Kong, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/the-pavilia-bay/

THE PAVILIA BAY is a luxury residential project that sails under iridescent sunlight upon the Rambler Channel.

The project site sits on the waterfront, and the brilliant sunset over the waters struck the heart of the designer – basked in sunlight, the concept for THE PAVILIA BAY was thus conceived. In the dense city of Hong Kong, this magnificent open view must be highlighted – the project can be read as a yacht embarking its journey towards the waters.

The themes of ‘sunshine’ and ‘yachting’ was carried all the way from macro building form, elevation, interiors, down to micro details such as door handle and signage designs.

The nautical design language and visualisation of sunlight is articulated through and highlighted by the streamlines that form the main character and feature of the building form. There are no sharp corners or straight lines in the three-dimensional curvy form of the elevation. This softens the often stiff and rigid architecture and allows the building to merge with the surrounding.

Kei-Cuisine_LWK-_-PARTNERS_01-_2_.jpg

Kei Cuisine, Hong Kong, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/kei-cuisine/

LWK + PARTNERS took inspiration from the Yoshida Fire Festival to create an elegant ambiance for Kei Cuisine, a luxury Cantonese restaurant located in one of Hong Kong’s core retail areas.

The entrance features a show kitchen with an eye-catching grill counter that resembles the iconic tapering form of Mount Fuji – a landscape always in sight during the festival. Guests are then guided down a moody corridor enriched with split-faced stone walls.

The dining area offers two distinct but connected experiences, leading guests from an enthusiastic and delightful main dining area to three private dining rooms with serenity. The visitor’s attention would be captured by a gorgeous lantern-shaped chandelier above plush banquette seating while translucent partitions between the private rooms and main hall have patterns adapted from the chef’s ink painting. A giant red velvet wall at the end invokes the spectacular scene of the festival. Every detail from the grand entrance to the furniture, carpet, decorative lighting and other details have been tailored to reflect the spirit of the Yoshida festival.

Zhongshan-OCT-Harbour_LWK-_-PARTNERS_01-_2_.jpg

Zhongshan OCT Harbour, Zhongshan, China

https://www.lwkp.com/project/zhongshan-oct-harbour/

Shiqi is a culturally rich area in Zhongshan. As the city continues to develop, urban renewal has met higher expectations from society. This large-scale cultural and leisure complex intends to enliven the ecology of the Gangkou River, incorporating vernacular Lingnan aesthetics, recreational needs of customers across ages and sustainability considerations.

The project will have a theme park, retail areas, entertainment facilities, offices and residences across both sides of the river. The masterplan takes full advantage of the waterscapes with on a ‘One Ring, Two Hearts, Three Belts, Six Zones’ concept. An experiential pedestrian bridge acts as the primary circulation route, connecting two nodes themed with commercial experience and future technology park respectively. In response to demands for bankside recreation, serviced accommodation and business, six zones were laid out around experiential retail, technological fantasy, eco-friendly Bay Breeze Resort, integrated business and LOHAS-style residential area.
