The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS) was founded in 1957 and has been collecting bird records in Hong Kong since then, particularly in the Deep Bay area. In 2012, HKBWS implemented the Hong Kong Fishpond Conservation Scheme in the West Circle of Northern Metropolis to promote biodiversity and wetland conservation.

In this tour, participants will learn about the conservation work of HKBWS in the Deep Bay area, and the history and culture of the freshwater pond fish culture industry in Hong Kong.

A fisherman at Tai Sang Wai who is participating in HKBWS’s Fishpond Conservation Scheme will also share her story and her thoughts on the future of the industry.

Lastly, the tour will end in Ma Tso Lung where participants can look at the fishpond landscape from above and understand the development threats that the Deep Bay wetlands and birds are facing.
