HKIP & HKILA: Planning and Design Competition on Pet-friendly Harbourfront in Hong Kong
比赛

The Community Planning Committee (CPC) of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) and the Young Landscape Architects’ Group (YLA) of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA) are launching the “Planning and Design Competition on Pet-friendly Harbourfront in Hong Kong”.

Pet ownership is booming in Hong Kong. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) launched a trial scheme of “Inclusive Park for Pets” in 2019, aimed to introduce an inclusive environment for park users with or without pets to enjoy park facilities together. Following the successful implementation of the trial scheme and to meet the public's demands to open more parks for them to visit with pets, the LCSD has so far designated over 100 existing parks to “Inclusive Park for Pets” in various districts. In all, over 20 venues are located at promenades or parks nearby to bring diversity to the harbourfront areas.

Planners and landscape architects play critical roles throughout the process of planning and design quality open space, from site selection and spatial planning to detailed design stage. Through the delivery of this competition, we wish to encourage young professionals to be actively involved in and strive to provide an enjoyable and integrated open space, especially promenades or parks nearby, for the enjoyments of both local communities and pets. In view of the popularity and tendency towards a pet-inclusive harbourfront in Hong Kong, we are now calling for innovative planning and design ideas that could inspire the public and private sectors to plan for integral and quality pet-friendly harbourfront.
