Members' Concern on Fugitive Offenders Ordinance

HKIA Council noted that there are views and concerns from some members of the Institute on the proposed amendments to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance (FOO) by the SAR Government.

As such, HKIA arranged a joint Institutes discussion session on 21 May 2019 for members to express their views direct to our constituent LegCo representative - Hon. Tony TSE.

HKIA also relayed to Hon. Tony TSE all the queries received from the members regarding the implications of FOO towards our profession and our practice, especially in the Mainland, for his due communication and follow up with the SAR Government.

Please refer to the concerns raised by the members at the discussion, and the follow up action by Hon. Tony TSE, as shared in the link at https://bit.ly/30Py1HP for members’ reference.

In parallel, the Council has been liaising with the Hong Kong Law Society to hold a briefing session for our members on the relevance of FOO to our profession and practice.  Details of the event will be announced soon.

The Council shall continue to reflect to the relevant stakeholders and the public the views of our members related to our profession and practice.
