Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan metropolis where old tradition blends perfectly with Western culture and post-modern trends. According to Emporis, there are 1,223 skyscrapers in Hong Kong, which puts the city at the top of world rankings. It has more building taller than 500 feet than any other city. The International commerce Centre (ICC), at 1,588 ft. high, is the tallest building in the city and third tallest in the world. Other recognizable skyline feature includes the HSBC Headquarters Building, the triangular-topped Central Plaza with its pyramid-shaped spire.

The geography of Hong Kong is also surprisingly varied, beyond the compact jungle of the high-rises and the busy retail and entertainment districts, lie a landscape rising from sandy beaches and rocky foreshores to height of almost 1,000 metres, woodlands and mountain ranges covered by open grassland and a variety of scenic vistas. Most of the Hong Kong’s parks have over 1,000 species of plants.

Airport Express
The MTR’s high-speed Airport Express takes approximately 24 minutes to reach Hong Kong Island and is the fastest way to get between the city and the airport. Airport Express passengers are able to take a free shuttle bus from Kowloon and Hong Kong stations to major hotels. Visitors can purchase a HKD 220 or HKD 300 Airport Express Travel pass (both includes a refundable deposit of HKD 50) to enjoy one or two single journeys on the Airport. Express, as well as three consecutive days of unlimited travel on the MTR, the Light Rail and MTR Bus. The ticket is valid for 180 days from the day of issue.

MTR
The MTR consists of ten rail lines, including Island, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Tseung Kwan O, Tung Chung, West Rail, East Rail, Ma On Shan, Disneyland Resort and the Airport Express. The MTR also operates a light rail system that runs between Yuen Long and Tuen Mun in the New Territories. Visitors can purchase a $55 Tourist Day Pass or $25 Child Tourist Day Pass1 to enjoy any one day of unlimited travel on the MTR to experience Hong Kong. The ticket is valid for one month from the date of issue.


Public Buses
Buses in Hong Kong are plentiful and comfortable, and most are air-conditioned. Especially the popular and the double-deckers that offer great views of the surrounding city from the top deck. Fares are based on distance travelled and exact change is required if paying by cash. Octopus cards are accepted on all buses in Hong Kong.

Minibus (Van)
Minibus normally carries 16 people. Green minibuses operate along specific routes at fixed price. Exact change is required if paying by cash and they all accept Octopus Cards. Red Minibuses operate along routes that are not always fixed and passenger can get on and off anywhere along the route. Visitors pay alight when travelling on a red minibus and the drive usually provides change for small notes.

Ferries
As a coastal city, Hong Kong regularly operates ferry routes that connect Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the Outlying Islands. Ferries operating from the Central ferry piers on Hong Kong Island provide services to the main Outlying Islands of Peng Chau, Cheung Chau, Lamma Island and Lantau Island, including Discovery Bay.

Trams
Take a step back in time and explore the bustling north corridor of Hong Kong Island aboard one of the city's historic trams. These double-decker streetcars have been travelling through Hong Kong's busiest thoroughfares since 1904 and continue to be an affordable, inexpensive and fun way to get around. Each tram ride costs a flat fare of $2.30 and exact change is required if you are paying by cash. All trams accept Octopus cards.

Peak Trams
The Peak is often dubbed Hong Kong’s most spectacular destination, but even just getting to it can be almost as spellbinding. The journey takes only seven minutes and is a visual experience to remember, as skyscrapers glide past at what appear to be impossible angles while the tram makes its ascent. The Peak Tram operates from 7am to midnight daily, departing at 10 to 15-minute intervals from the lower Peak Tram terminus located on Garden Road in Central. Exact change is required if paying by cash and Octopus cards are accepted.
