HANGZHOU CITY WEST OFFICE COMPLEX

Project Type: Mixed Use Complex, including retail, Co-working space,
Exhibition center and habitation
Project Location : Gongshu District, Hangzhou,China
Participated Phase: Masterplanning, Concept Design,Schematic Design, Design Development
Year : 2017 - 2022 (Design and development)

Situated on the edge of the Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou and next to the Xialongwei Station, this project is not only a typical office building project, but also a creative hub of business headquarters, small and medium-size enterprises and innovative workspace integration. Before the start of the project, AaaM has conducted qualitative researches based on innovative office design and co-working space possibilities. They focus on users experience and shared office formats. With three key elements, this project aims to provide a platform for collective enterprise development, academic exchange and experimental business models. As such, it is an interactive space for public engagement and a transition within enterprises, university and communities. Combining the advantages of grade A offices, standard and co-working space, this design encourages mutually development with related parties.

The design is inspired from a portal concept where a central stepped terrace connects the east and west building mass, forming a semi-open atrium surrounded by clusters of public meeting spaces, cafe and conference room of different kinds. This outdoor courtyard is fully illuminated by natural light and becomes a 3-dimensional co-share area. It is accessible by public including university students, office workers and community stakeholders, which marks a new type of office typology characterized by the new share-economy.

AaaM as the chief designer was responsible in upgrading and rebranding the SHOPIN outlet mall. While setting the design brief, the architects provided design solution from head to toe, from façade design, hard landscape, retail planning, interior design, anchor store and signage design. Retail circulation is completely re-planned, tailored for a mall of renowned factory stores for retailers like Nike, Uniqlo, etc. Anchor stores, usually found in traditional mall, are displaced with SHOPIN-operated multi-brand stores at strategic locations between factory stores. This retail strategy facilitates a better shoppers’ experience along different types of outlet stores. Shopin City Outlet Mall is now a daily destination to its immediate neighbourhood and the shoppers within 5 km, covering online and offline community.

Visitor experience
Phase: Scheme Design/Construction Drawing/Aesthetic Supervision
Year: 2017

The Xmas’ TREe Nursery took a socially-engaging approach to convey an environmental message
through a temporary installation. In lieu of gigantic installations common in Hong Kong in the Xmas’
season, 36 Xmas’ trees of humane scale made up by 16,000 recycled paper drink cartons, with the
participation of over 1600 primary students and thousands of public, formed a Xmas’ tree nursery. Reconceptualizing
from festive consumerism icon back to one of sharing and respect for the environment,

FLOATING XMAS PAVILION

Project Location: PMQ Central, Hong Kong
Project Type: Installation, Celebrations topics
Scope: Christmas design, Floor & Banner graphics, Visitor experience
Phase: Scheme Design/Construction Drawing/Aesthetic Supervision
Year: 2018

AaaM Architects designed a Christmas pavilion within the courtyard of a modernist heritage building
in Hong Kong Central where color balloons could float freely within the space. In lieu of Christmas tree
commonly seen in other commercial venue in the city, a 17m x 11m semi-translucent wave-like structure
was hung 7-meter high above the open courtyard. The wave-like cloud forms an enclosure underneath
where thousand-meter of fishline were weaved to form a translucent barrier around the pavilion.
Helium and air infilled balloon of vivid color were kept freely dancing in the wind within the space while
visitors could experience and interact with the gently floating balloons around them.
