Synopsis

HKGBC Retrofit Guidebook v2.0 was launched in January 2024. The purpose of the guidebook is to reduce energy use through the retrofitting process by active and passive design. HKIA E&SDC had contributed on the passive design section.

In this CPD sharing, we are delighted to have HKGBC Executive Director Ir Dr. Cary Chan to share the overall of this Guidebook, and also the architect and end users to share about the outcome of passive design for the energy and carbon reduction.

Ir Dr. Cary CHAN will give an introduction of the retro-fitting guidebook. The talk will cover the background and purpose of the guidebook and how it is structured as a living document that enables it’s enrichments by different stakeholders in the industry. The presentation will also cover the Advancing Net Zero project of the World Green Building Council together with the strategies of HKGBC in driving the building sector towards carbon neutrality by 2050 and how this guidebook fits in with the strategy.

China Resources Building (CRB) – the headquarters of China Resources has resided in Wan Chai North since 1983. China Resources wanted to transform its 50-storey CRB as a contemporary building from its white tiles and red stone cladding, giving the corporate headquarter a new international image. China Resources also aimed to create a more comfortable and convenient environment in harmony with the neighbourhood. Thus, a revitalization project was integrated with the redevelopment of Harbour Road Garden, the Causeway Centre podium and the public passage linking buildings in the area.

Glazing
Regent HK Hotel was built in 1980 and fully renovated in 2020-22, except for the façade glass and windows. The poor thermal performance of existing glass has given headaches to hotel management especially at the G/F all day dining restaurant, Harborside. For years, the hotel had faced challenges about the thermal discomfort near the glass, glare and condensation on glass at summer time in the restaurant that blocks the beautiful Victoria Harbour view. In this presentation, Harvey is going to share how he adopted innovative Building Vacuum Glass(BVG) glazing retrofit system to solve the problems.
