On 3rd September, 1956, 27 architects gathered and formed The Hong Kong Society of Architects. As the membership of the Society increased, recognition was given by Royal Institute of British Architects as an Allied Society. The change of name from Society to Institute was effected in 1972 and had initiated a new phase of activities for the Institute.
In 1990, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects Incorporation Ordinance (Chapter 1147) governing the running of the Institute was enacted.
Today The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) has more than 4,000 members and 180 architectural practices as corporate members.
Apart from the Hong Kong office, the Institute also operates a representative office in Beijing since 2006.
在1956年9月3日，27名建築師聯袂組成香港建築師公會。自此以後，會員人數持續增長，其專業團體的地位更獲英國皇家建築師學會認可。工會於1972年正式易名為香港建築師學會，並開啟了會務的新里程。
隨著香港建築師學會法團條例於1990年的頒佈及生效，為學會的組織及管理提供明確的規管依據。
目前，香港建築師學會已有超過4000名個人會員及180多間公司會員。
學會除香港辦事處外，並自2006起在北京設有代表辦事處。
Anniversary Logo 60周年標誌
Year 2016 marks the 60th anniversary of HKIA and our President Vincent Ng, has specially designed a logo for the celebration.
The logo for HKIA’s 60th anniversary is designed to present a refreshed image for the Institute. The elements illustrated in the logo symbolise profound meaning.
The logo is composed of a combination of traditional drawing tools commonly used by Architects, which include a T-square (“H”), a compass (“K”), a ruler (“I”), and a 60-degree set square (“A”). They come together to form “HKIA” (The Hong Kong Institute of Architects).
The years “1956”and “2016” are embossed on the letter “K” . They portray HKIA’s vigorous effort over the past years which will continue to the future.
The purple circle on the letter “A” with dynamic brush stroke embodies the festive mood and resounds with the celebrations of the Institute’s 60th anniversary.
Joyful colours of the logo also symbolise vitality and dynamism.
2016年是本學會創立60周年，有見及此，吳永順會長為學會親自設計了60周年標誌，展現一個全新的學會形象，圖案設計象徵著深遠的意義，與建築師的生活息息相關。
標誌由建築師傳統的設計工具由左至右排列組成，其中包括丁字尺、圓規、直尺，和一個60度三角板。它們湊拼成香港建築師學會「HKIA」的英文簡稱。
字母“K”蘊涵了“1956”和“2016”，展現了香港建築師學會自1956年創會至今六十載奮發向前，並把此精神往後延續。
在字母“A”上帶有紫色圓形的動態筆觸，洋溢著歡愉的慶祝氣氛，呼應學會60周年慶典活動的盛事。
標誌的亮麗色彩也象徵著建築師動感與活力的一面。
